From Voice of the Proletariat
Below is the suggested rewording of the acceptable content guidelines, based on grahams' feedback in the massive porn flamewar which most people probably gave up on. Please see grahams' words about this hot-topic at the bottom of this page.
As a reminder, the current guidelines simply say:
"...we'd like to ask for your cooperation and stop short of hard-core pornography."
This simple phrase has led to much debate and whining. The intention of this revision is to provide more explanation of what does and doesn't constitute "hard-core pornography", and define a few other types of image that will cause the site hosting trouble.
Actual interpretation and enforcement of rules will continue to be by community moderation. These are merely guidelines to explain to the community what we have to do to keep the community running.
The guidelines do not catch every single possibility. They do not define what exceptions are allowed. That's up to the community to make rulings on, using human judgement on a case-by-case basis. (This is noted in the guidelines, see below.) ASCII goatses, for example? That's up to the community to decide.

P.S. Read the thread that lead to this and you'll see my personal preference was not to censor to meet the sensibilities of advertisers; I'm just trying to get something useful out of the flamewar and hopefully avoid another one in a few weeks.
P.P.S. The text below has not been approved by the cabal. Yet.
P.P.P.S There is no cabal.

Draft content guidelines for bN
Because it is difficult for sites containing "adult" content to find hosting, obtain an ad revenue stream, or accept credit card payments, there are currently limits to what should be posted to banniNation. These guidelines are here to help you understand the limits.
It is up to the community to interpret and enforce these guidelines, and decide when exceptions are warranted.
In the event that the site becomes self-supporting through donations or some other method of funding, the limits may be removed. In the mean time, we ask for your assistance in community moderation.
Illegal content
As a reminder, the following things are illegal in some or all states of the USA, and never allowed in images:
- Child pornography.
- Bestiality.
These topics may, of course, be discussed via text.
Inappropriate content
The following things, although legal in the US, should not be posted in images on this site, and should be flagged as inappropriate if posted:
- Racism and/or homophobia.
- Sexual penetration of any kind.
- Bondage or S&M.
- Dead humans or animals, other than in news photographs.
- Wounds and blood, except for news value.
- Urine.
- Male or female ejaculate.
- Feces.
- Medical anomalies posted for shock value.
The above list is not definitive or exhaustive. The community may decide that there are other classes of image that should not be allowed, or that some text should be restricted
All topics in the above inappropriatec content list may be discussed via text or linked to; they are only prohibited in inline image form.
"Not safe for work" content
All content which is not safe for work should be restricted to threads flagged NSFW. NSFW content posted in threads not flagged NSFW, whether image or text, should be flagged as inappropriate.
The following content is specifically allowed in NSFW threads:
- Nudity (male and female, including all body parts).
- Sexual contact short of penetrative sex (kissing, fondling), including same-sex contact.
Finally, remember that just because you can post something, doesn't mean you should.
- What Grahams has to say about this:
I'm not sure i'd specifically say never (other than the illegal stuff). There are situations where some of that material has legitimate value. However it's probably best not used for shock value. Grahams 20:25, 10 September 2007 (PDT)
