[edit] Hacks, Extensions and Style Sheets

Several enterprising citizens have invested time and effort in creating browser extensions and style sheets intended to enhance the banniNation experience. Although these additional features are not part of the actual banniNation site code, we'd like to offer links and brief descriptions here as a public service.

While we strive to involve the entire community in the process of making and testing code changes, be advised that there may be times in which the banniNation site software undergoes changes that make its presentation incompatible with any or all of these extensions. The banniNation is very much a work in progress, as are the extensions.

Sites, software, scripts, and other materials described on this page are owned and copyrighted by their respective authors, and all questions about support, functionality enhancements, and usage should be directed to those authors. Banned Ventures LLC assumes no responsibility whatsoever for these extensions or any issues that may arise related to their use.

[edit] baNdit

  • The baNdit extension can be used to quote comments and insert HTML images/links in banniNation comment threads. The baNdit code is based on the Farkit extension.

The baNdit home page is hosted on banditaddon.wordpress.com.

[edit] naBBit

  • naBBit is a javascript-based extension that adds graphical images to user comment lines. Users can upload a personal image and/or upload images appropriate (or not) for other users. naBBit is available as a Firefox extension or a Greasemonkey script at webmonkees.com/nabbit
  • naBBit had an issue when banniNation went over one million posts. That issue has been resolved, and the above link should behave nicely, if you have a nabbit-compatible browser.
  • There is also a beta version using the new community authorization feature at webmonkees.com/naBBit which also properly uses the author's somewhat perplexing iNterCaps naming. The beta can be installed in place of the regular Firefox extension and vice versa. Images in regular naBBit are not updated with this, just beta ones and ones transferred for testing. You will need this version if you have FireFox v. 2.0.0.9 or later (not sure if it works with Firefox 3.0 yet.)
  • The Firefox plug-in version of naBBit, like other Firefox plugins, comes packaged as an .xpi file. Firefox can automatically install naBBit. Save the .xpi file somewhere (like your desktop). Once it's there, double-click it, or right-click it and 'open-with' Firefox. You should be presented with a dialog box that wants to confirm that you really do want to install it. Once it's installed, Firefox will want to restart. This is good. Now you can read bN and see all the neat images you've been missing.
  • Ok, so how do you get your own images to show up? You need to upload them to the webmonkees server. Go here. You need to click the 'Authenticate' button. On the page you are taken to, enter your user name and password just as it appears on bN. Once authenticated, you can upload images. For various reasons, each image needs to be a certain size, both dimensionally and byte-wise.
  • If you ask nicely, Mathmatix might make the icons for you.

Issues with the naBBIt

bannination members who wish to 'opt-out' of the service (i.e. not have any images loaded for their user id or other issues such as inappropriate images, or locking an image, should contact the author via Google mail addressed to 'webmonkees'. Please note: If you have Firefox v. 2.0.0.9 or later you will need the beta version of naBBit.

[edit] Style Sheets and Plugins

Style Sheets - The list of custom Stylesheets to use with Stylish/GreaseMonkey (Firefox Plugin) or Opera and Bannination.com. Most of the styles don't dramatically change the look of the site, but just give it alternate color themes that people might find more pleasing to look at when reading.
