There is no cabal

There is a running joke about a supposed secret group, the Cabal, that conspires to control or direct the content on bN. The Cabal is usually depicted as being left-wing and enjoys squelching the opinions of bN's more conservative contributors.

Actually, this joke goes back a hell of a lot farther than that - twenty years ago, there was allegedly a Cabal that controlled Usenet. Somebody would yowl about how the Cabal was persecuting them, and the standard chorus of response on the newsgroup would be "There is no cabal" (or "TINC", for short).
