Stalled and Rejected Ideas Archive
Items that appear to have been decided upon that cannot be implemented due to issues or argued senarios for abuse, disinterest or just overwhelmingly not in favor of. Also, items voted against by Grahams and/or Cranky Bastard probably should be moved here, as it would be an indication that the idea would have to overcome a significant hurdle to be implemented against their wishes.
- Merged Stalled and Rejected Ideas into the same page, they both seemed to have the same purpose.
VNSFW
Description
- Some people have been whining that they like pictures with tits in (NSFW), but don't like anything weirder or pornier than that. The VNSFW tag would allow anything more offensive than tits to be tagged Very Not Safe For Work, leaving NSFW for mildly salacious stuff that frankly shouldn't offend anyone.
Comments
- NSFW is NSFW. That's all there is to it. MuninsFire 07:54, 10 September 2007 (PDT)
- How do we differentiate VNSFW and obscene? Grahams 08:07, 10 September 2007 (PDT)
- How do you even define obscene? I'd prefer for people to use their judgement and link to images that might be considered VNSFW as opposed to making another type of status for a thread. Ratfucker 03:10, 11 September 2007 (PDT)

Out Anonymous Zapped Posts, Pt. II
Someone reaches a combined STFU Index of 4+, their anonymous -zapped- posts get outed.
- Better that ten anonymous shitposters remain free, than a single anonymous freedom-speaker get outed. (Or poster-of-embarassing-things, or poster-of-unpopular-opinion, etc.)--Leperflesh 13:37, 18 July 2007 (PDT)
- People complain about alts for queue commando activity, wait 'til it's used to out anonymous posters! -- Supergrover 2232 25082007 (EDT)

Thread Moderation for Scheduled Threads
Description
- In order to reduce Anarchy and foster sub-communities, give the owner of the scheduled thread the ability to zap or restore comments that they judge to be disruptive to the thread. People will avoid scheduled threads of bad moderators, and it will help control trolls.
- I would further suggest that anything zapped in a scheduled thread not impact the person that was zapped in any of their stats.
Comments
- Once you open that door, it won't be shut again.
- Discussion Thread
- Only allow a user one moderated scheduled thread and five scheduled threads total. brazil 20:58, 2 September 2007 (PDT)
- I would definitely agree with this on terms that 1) any insta-zaps have no effect on the victim's stats, and 2) the owner moderation is simply an option similar to NSFW/SFW, so the owner can opt to have it or not, and the users can see when they're voting for the scheduled thread if it's owner moderated or not. I also definitely like the idea of restricting any given user's number of moderated scheduled threads. Sarmydoc
- Not keen on this idea for the reason that it would be too easily exploited by the very same people that deserve the moderation that they get and get all pissy about. Ratfucker 03:47, 3 September 2007 (PDT)
- I'm thinking the potential for abuse is too great especially in debate threads. Eddyatwork
- Agreed. I strongly disagree with this suggestion, and think that it ought to be taken out and shot. MuninsFire 08:00, 10 September 2007 (PDT)

Hide and Unhide Zapped Comments
Have a toggle that allows you to hide and unhide the zapped comments
- Too risky in the event of an illegal post or one that gives away personal information

Submit Alternate Link
Allow users to submit an alternate link for an already queued story. Sometimes a link sucks, the story is awesome, and you find a better link.
- This could, however, lead to linkjacking. A new link can be given in the discussion if someone has found another. I have seen this before and clicked to read it. --Finkmota 05:38, 20 July 2007 (PDT)
- Noted... vote changed. Elchip 09:23, 21 July 2007 (PDT)
- Also against this idea due to possible 'linkjacking'. Ratfucker 18:14, 21 July 2007 (PDT)

Public "Alts" List in Profiles
I think it would be cool to make those public for people who troll the site a lot, so I'd say only make it public if someone gets STFU'd, but then people would conspire to "out" somebody's alts by voting down, like they did with an anonymous poster in the past.
- I don't think we should go any further than MAYBE listing the number of alts someone has.

Alternate Headlines: More trouble than they're worth?
In almost every case, alternate headlines are used to mock the article, mock the submitter, change the submitter's intent, or start a whinefest. Are they more trouble than it's worth? I say yea. If they're disabled or somehow restricted, though, the following are pretty much mandatory:
- Preview your submission.
- Disallow the same link from being in the queue more than once (this might already be implemented).
- I strongly disagree. Alternate headlines can frequently change a trollfest headline into a semi-reasonable one, or alter a directly-copied headline into something more palatable. MuninsFire 10:23, 20 July 2007 (PDT)
- I'm with MuninsFire here. Alternate headlines are fun as hell. Alternate headlines disappear when they reach -5, so just vote down the crappy ones, and watch the user's STFU metric rise.
- Agreed. There have been many times where an alt headline actually turned an intentionally trolling headine into something that more accurately represents the story. Ratfucker 18:13, 21 July 2007 (PDT)

It's all about Benjamin
I propose Benjamin Franklin be named The One True Anonymous Instigator. MuninsFire 14:20, 6 July 2007 (PDT)
- I also think that Benjamin Franklin should be The One True Anonymous Instigator. tabernash 14:29, 6 July 2007 (PDT)
- Yep, Benjamin Franklin is The One True Anonymous Instigator. --Vendaz 10:14, 7 July 2007 (PDT)
- But should be Silence Dogood or Thomas Paine --brazil 13:11, 7 July 2007 (PDT)
- Speaking of Anonymous Instigators, it kind of irks me that it says "Someone who may or may not be The Anonymous Instigator" instead of "Anonymous Instigator."
- I agree with the previous comment. Is it possible to assign a user ID to use with "Anonymous Instigator" (as 0 is used for anon in general) as to provide a distinction between anonymous posts and anonymous threadstarting discussion topics? Shortening it to "Anonymous Instigator" would be a big step if only that is done. Ratfucker 02:50, 11 July 2007 (PDT)
- Benjamin Franklin? WTF. That is just stupid. Not even funny. He invented Aids, you know.

Vault 13
I'd like to see the site with an optional, custom Fallout Vault 13 theme.. it's already leaning in that direction with the masthead and the bolts. Anyone got ideas for how to CSS it further in that direction? I've got wood just picturing it. --Vin diesel 14:22, 6 July 2007 (PDT).

Driving more traffic from Anon-DIT Usage
grahams, we should consider treating anon-dit submissions differently. they have the chance to pull more TOS people here, but they take so long to hit the main page here, they kinda loose that. all the TOSers have already commented and left by then and never make the link to here. whamdangler did us a good favor by making it link back when it hits the main page here... we should use that.
- In theory I agree, brazil, but when I read that site I see mostly people who I don't want to bring over here (with a few exceptions). One reason I was losing interest in TF even before I left is because the overall tone there, from a lot of people, was becoming bitterly cynical, like people felt egged on by each other to see who could come up with the sharpest, quickest way to put down the submitter or each other.
- I liked the kind of witty snark that was there a couple of years ago--and which I think is in some of the threads here--but later the style got sour enough that I started to regret reading the threads, consistently (and I knew other people who left for that reason before I did). Being abrasive or cruel seemed to take a priority over being funny. I still see that tone in the anondit community and don't want to bring more of it here.. for what my vote's worth. --Vin diesel 12:23, 17 July 2007 (PDT)
- Considering a number of users on bN have been banned from Anon-Dit for calling out that exact issue Vin mentioned, the abrasive and cruel comments that people had posted in response to an to anon-dit... Well, I'd have to say I really don't care for the AnonDit itself. Given it tends to be the same block of folks who bother to comment on the AnonDit submissions itself, it's almost safe to say everyone there already knows about bN. I'd just settle for letting it get mainpaged when it does. Ratfucker 16:46, 17 July 2007 (PDT)
Eat a bowl of dicks! -ignoramus 3:16
- I don't think we need this at all, frankly. We have discussion threads and anonymity for this sort of thing. If it's interesting, then the community will vote it up; if nobody gives a rat's ass, then they won't. MuninsFire 07:35, 23 July 2007 (PDT)

Out Anonymous Zapped Posts
Enough said.
- If this were made a feature, a concerted effort by malicious curious people could out posters of very private information. Elchip 14:12, 10 July 2007 (PDT)
- Didn't think about that. Changing vote. - Andbruno 21:03, 11 July 2007 (PDT)
- In all fairness, nothing keeps someone from creating an alt to post anonymously under a name nobody associates with their main. This method would still allow people to track down anon abusers by revealing who actually made the post that deserved to be voted down. Just my take on it, though I also agree it can be abused.
